TikToker Joshua Blackledge has died at age 16.
According to Blackledge’s online obituary, the social media star died on March 18, at his home in Newport, North Carolina. A cause of death has not been revealed.
“Joshua will be remembered by those who knew him for his enthusiasm and love for life,” the obit read. “May his memory bring comfort to all who mourn his passing.”
A celebration of life service was held on Sunday, March 23, for Blackledge’s family and friends. He is survived by his parents and brother Josiah.
Blackledge was a popular figure on TikTok as he amassed more than 1.1 million followers. He posted lip-syncing and car-related videos. He also collaborated with his girlfriend, Emmie Gillikin, on many posts and gave insights into their relationship.
Following the news of Blackledge’s passing, Gillikin took to social media to honor her late boyfriend.
“Missing this sweet boy right now. Never would’ve thought I would have been here without you. Josh showed me what love really was even tho I’m very young,” she wrote alongside a TikTok video montage of them. “He never failed to put a smile on my face no matter how mad I was at him. Never thought I would miss those little arguments we had over absolutely nothing. Josh was so loved by everyone around him, he was a great friend, and most importantly the best boyfriend. Josh would do absolutely anything for me even when he was at his lowest.”
Gillikin shared that the news of Blackledge’s death was a shock and she was feeling “all the emotions.”
“I could say so much more abt this one guy who has a huge spot in my heart and always will but I want anyone reading this to hold onto [their] loved ones while [they’re] here and tell your best buds you love them,” she continued. “We miss you so much Josh watch over us and keep us safe🕊️❤️.”
Outside of social media, Blackledge was a junior in high school and was a member of the wrestling and track teams, per the obituary. He also had an affinity for nature, cars, cooking, gardening and more.
